Gerard Alessandrini’s Forbidden Broadway has spoofed and skewered Broadway’s greatest shows and musical legends for the past 35 years. Northeast Ohio audiences who haven’t been able to see the show before are in for a treat, as Western Reserve Playhouse is bring the best of the series to its local stage with Forbidden Broadway, Greatest Hits Vol. 1.

Dawn Sniadak-Yamokoski instills her expertise, admiration and passion for musicals into the show, ably aided by musical director John Ebner (who energetically accompanies and humorously interacts with the actors) and choreographer Samantha Woodill (who gets to incorporate a wide variety of dance styles into the proceedings).

Each member of the ensemble gets to steal the spotlight several times throughout the two-act show. The cast features Don Bernardo, Tina Davis, Jay Hill, Bernadette Hisey, Nicholas Peters, Luke Scattergood, Kimberly Sullivan, Nina Takacs, Mark Vandevender, and Kaleigh Velette.

Not only are these performers strong singers and comedians, but they are equally adept at celebrity impersonations, which feature in many of the musical numbers.

Forbidden Broadway also sparkles thanks to the efforts of the WRP creative team. Technical director Jim Gremba worked on the stunning set with Jack Steele, and heads up a talented group that also includes costumer Kelsey Tomlinson, lighting designer Kevin Rutan.

Under the artistic direction of Sniadak-Yamokoski and Brian Westerley, the Western Reserve Playhouse is getting a major makeover these days, which will lead to year-round programming and many more chances for the company to shine in the future.
