Western Reserve Playhouse auditions for Happy Hollandaise!

By Tim Koenig

Directed by Ian Atwood

Synopsis: All Claire Finley wants is the perfect Christmas.  She’s hired the celebrated gourmet chef Vilma Hasenpfeffer to prepare her famous Hasenpfeffer Hollandaise Sauce for her dinner guests — the new vicar and his very pregnant wife, Mary.  Unfortunately, however, the chef is late, the guests are early and there are burglars loose in the neighborhood.  To top it all off, Claire’s father has been hit on the head (with the crèche, no less!) and thinks he’s the leading man in all of the West End theatre productions of the last 30 years!  With the help of her quirky brother George, Claire tries to keep everything together as it continues to unravel in this sidesplitting British farce reminiscent of Arsenic and Old Lace.  But once the mayhem dies down and the mixed-up identities unscramble, the true Christmas spirit shines bright in a surprise ending, which involves transformation, forgiveness, and a beautiful new beginning.

We continue our 2019 $5 Buck Play Reading Series with “Sirens” by Deborah Zoe Laufer.
Directed by Jim Fippin

When Sam Abrams first fell in love with Rose he wrote her a song which has been covered by every recording artist and translated to every language. It is heard in every elevator and on every cell phone ringtone. And for twenty-five years, Sam has been looking for the creative spark that this first flush of love had inspired in him – to no avail. Sam and Rose are now celebrating their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary with a cruise in the Mediterranean. And while on this cruise, Sam hears the most sublime music ever heard, jumps overboard, and winds up with a Siren. And there on her island he must struggle with the terrors of middle age, the tortures of creative failure, and the desire to live in his past rather than face his uncertain future. And he must find a way to get home and win his wife back.

Anne of Green Gables Opens FRIDAY!!

Western Reserve Playhouse presents

“Anne of Green Gables”

from the novel L.M. Montgomery, adapted by Joseph Robinette

Directed by Brianna Joi

This new dramatization captures the charm and excitement of L.M. Montgomery’s enduring classic about an orphan girl, Anne Shirley, from her first encounter with her austere guardian to her thrilling graduation from Queen’s Academy. The play faithfully recreates the memorable events and characters from the brilliant novel. All the tragedies and triumphs that mark Anne’s growth from adolescence to early adulthood are here: her friendship with Diana, her feuds with Gilbert, her adoration of Matthew, the mistaken wine bottle, the cake disaster, the broken leg, scholastic achievements, and the saving of Green Gables. Whether the playgoer is an “old friend” of Anne’s or meeting her for the first time, this play will solidify a lasting friendship between the audience and one of literature’s most unforgettable characters.

The star studded cast is lead by Molly Kessler (Anne), Harriet DeVeto (Marilla), Tenley Stitzer (Diana), and Stephen Morse (Matthew).  One of the largest main stage production on WRP Stage we are thrilled to bring back, James Patrick (Gilbert), Kerry Scanlon (Mrs. Barry), Kathy Pekarcik (Rachel), Dorota Zarzveka, and Zach Manthey.  Also new to the WRP stage are, Kathy Turk, Katie Heckroth, Lily Drybola, Trevor Kessler, Colleen Kessler, Ella Bozan, Camryn Henderson, Scarlett Dudley, Rosalie Sajovie, Catherine Messner, Barbara Stitzer, and Suzanne Heckroth. Directed by Brianna Joi, Stage Managed by Hannah Hilty , Costume Design by Kelsey Tomlinson (Little Women), Light Design by Daniel Hunsicker (Heather’s The Musical), props by Sue Snyder (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), Set Design by Walt Kaminski, and Set Construction by Jim Gremba.

Anne of Green Gables is from the novel by L.M. Montgomery and adapted by Joseph Robinette. Shows run from September 13-28, 2019. Tickets are $17.00 for Adults and $15.00 for Students and Seniors. Tickets can be purchased online at or at the door.
